Time period: A hundred years before Gem Hunter is born. The Guardian Lord has two grown sons, Gem and Lont. Gem is the older of the two, and thus the rightful heir to the Mana Throne and all of Libra. Lont, power hungry and resentful, slays his own father and frames Gem, getting his brother exiled and rising to power. Gem wanders in the west for a few years before settling down in the Eldran city als’Loen. There, he meets a traveling band of Kriss. Poor, starving, and desperate, he attempts to steal food from their caravan. He is caught and taken prisoner by the vigilant Kriss warriors. Upon learning of his circumstances, the tribe brushes aside his crime and give him supplies. After getting more familiar with eachother, he becomes an honorary member of the tribe. Later on, the Kriss will serve as the foundation of the Marauders.

Comments on the piece: Only existing sketch of Gem I. I like how the Kriss warrior turned out in this image, though Gem’s sort of meagerly presented. The focus was the Kriss, anyway. His arm might seem a tiny bit too long (correction: ridiculously long) but that’s just a difference in Kriss and human anatomy.
